The collector's instinct kicks in

I've always been a collector at heart, as evidenced by my rather extensive, and still growing, pokemon collection. It already takes up an entire wall but the sheer number of cute things that are released every month empties my pocket every time.

However, that's not what I'm collecting today. To my utter dismay, I've inadvertently fallen into the greatest trap.

CONSOLES GAMES COLLECTING.

Console(s) game(s), with major emphasis on the s'es. So what exactly am I referring to? These culprits are namely the PS3 and the 3DS, though ultimately, I suspect, it will extend to the PSVita and PS4 as well.

The problem with the urge to fill my shelf with all the best games is that each individual component will set me back 50 bucks. Thankfully, I've mitigated the first wave of damages by forcing myself to buy games second hand. However, eventually the backlog of older games will run dry, and spanking new collector's editions will soon be my greatest nightmares.

This worries me especially because I'm gainfully unemployed.

BUT

The amount of joy one gains from just owning something is ridiculous. It's not a sentiment a non-collector can empathize with, though, and that's good, cause it's not exactly the most economical hobby in the world.

My haul for the 3DS looks a little like this now.

There are still a couple of titles missing, namely, Story of Seasons, Persona Q, Shin Megami Tensei IV, some game cases I can't find, and the whole Zelda collection. After obtaining Monster Hunter 4U, Rune Factory 4 and Tales of the Abyss in one day though, I have successfully managed to quash the urge to hunt down more games in the immediate future. Hopefully at least until I finish what I have.

On the other hand, I shamefully admit to buying quite a number of PS3 games despite my physical console gathering dust in some corner of the attic.

And with that ends this status update, till the next haul.

MIRAcle indeed

What's that? What's that!? It's MIRAcle!

So after Zynga USA decided to fire a dozen employees, shut down their China branch and murder countless Ayakashi beauties, a bunch of disgruntled developers (supposedly) banded together to form a new company and a new AGG! Of course, there's no way to know if they will actually succeed in obtaining the rights and get the game out but a teeny bit of hope is in order.

My only fear is that it will be entirely in Chinese, and I will be hard-pressed to dig up the last dredges of what used to be a second language. However, I guess this is that one trigger that will motivate me to finally start learning it properly: what a blessing in disguise.

Enough TCG mobages! Where are them RPGs!?

So I've been talking about a bunch of mobages, but they're all card-collecting TCG games, and they're too competitive; and they take too much checking-in; and they sicken me with the sheer RNG required of gachas. So-! I decided it would do me some good to give them a rest and try something more relaxed.

For once, I want to choose my own pace, so I turned to RPGs and shortlisted a few pretty candidates.

Mobile games, mobile-ges, mobages

After surfing the net a bit, I just realized that the term I've been using for mobile games, 'mobilege', is actually an anglicized version of the Japanese term mobage (モバゲ). I always thought the full version, mobairu ge-mu (モバイルゲーム) was just shortened to mobairu ge, literally mobile-ge, but apparently not! It's even shorter than that!

I'm probably going to use the more popular mobage term from now on then, I guess!

ファミ通App FamitsuApp Magazine No. 022

This is the first time I've actually bought Famitsu's monthly mobilege magazine, and only because I wanted a single serial code within for one of the games I'm following right now.

Attractive serial codes aside, I did enjoy the magazine very much. It contains a number of introductory articles, interviews with developers, and updates on upcoming and running mobileges that usually rotate to give each game its own spotlight now and then. Through reading it, I think I feel more inspired to pick up more games!

A bug bit me

It's not life threatening!...

I'm not sure if this is an isolated case, but I've begun to notice, with DESPAIR, that the battle screen occasionally goes out of whack and I am left with something looking like this!

The screen just slides to the left or right indefinitely and nothing I do stops it. Eventually I can only select my monsters and hit whatever is targeted by default.

Hopefully it is just my device. Such a bummer :(

Progress, or not?

So I've gone ahead in AoI, clearing the first and second chapters of dungeons. When clearing maps, we earn points to use in purifying particular chapters and making it easier to clear subsequently. They serve as permanent upgrades like increasing ATK or HP for that level.

Strangely, by this point, the entire battle mechanic has already become routine! I don't need to think to execute those combos, and thankfully the game seems to follow some rules of physics eg. the armored monsters have high def, the big monsters are heavy, etc. so strategy shouldn't be too tough to figure out.

What does irk me, however, is the lack of information on possible drops or returns from the dungeons. It would be nice to know so I wouldn't miss out on anything!

Age of Ishtaria - First impressions

Okay so I just downloaded a new mobile-ge titled Age of Ishtaria by Silicon Studio. It doesn't appear to be a very old game, having only been localized at the end of last year. I have quite high hopes because of px's recommendation after the demise of AGG; I need more games to occupy my free time! haha

Anyway, on to the game!

Twice the charm

Okay so I decided to post a second post to celebrate successfully changing the font size!

Unfortunately the comment box is still big as hell, and I want smaller line spacings, but I guess I can be a bit happy for now!

...It would be nice if someone commented (,,◕ ⋏ ◕,,)  it is quite lonely here

First post

Although this is the first post I'm a bit too lazy to say anything useful so this will have to do for now!

First I need to invite all my guests and contributors :)
