A little update

(Before you read on, I apologize for the lack of photos in this post. Also, spoiler alert.)

Hmm so I haven't been posting much lately and by that, I mean, not at all. I guess I'm not someone who can stick to updating something regularly, and it shows in how I play my games too. For that, I really mean that I'm the kind of person who would keep my Neopet healthy and bloated for a few days, then not visit for 3 years before repeating the cycle. Which is why my town (Animal Crossing) is still undeveloped...

Okay well, the main reason why I haven't been posting is because I haven't had much to post about. (Ishtaria isn't very exciting, not getting units you want is very demoralizing and puts you off. TsumTsum is cute but repetitive, not much to post there, except that I'm trying to collect all the Tsums I can. Same goes for LINE Play. Not much comments on Alphabear but ugh it's so hard to get past Chapter 4. Dota is same-old, not much besides the reborn update which is still in beta and I didn't fully explore it yet cuz it's really buggy for me.)

After all that long-winded paragraph on games I have little content to talk about, you must be wondering what content I have for this post.

The collector's instinct kicks in

I've always been a collector at heart, as evidenced by my rather extensive, and still growing, pokemon collection. It already takes up an entire wall but the sheer number of cute things that are released every month empties my pocket every time.

However, that's not what I'm collecting today. To my utter dismay, I've inadvertently fallen into the greatest trap.

CONSOLES GAMES COLLECTING.

Console(s) game(s), with major emphasis on the s'es. So what exactly am I referring to? These culprits are namely the PS3 and the 3DS, though ultimately, I suspect, it will extend to the PSVita and PS4 as well.

The problem with the urge to fill my shelf with all the best games is that each individual component will set me back 50 bucks. Thankfully, I've mitigated the first wave of damages by forcing myself to buy games second hand. However, eventually the backlog of older games will run dry, and spanking new collector's editions will soon be my greatest nightmares.

This worries me especially because I'm gainfully unemployed.

BUT

The amount of joy one gains from just owning something is ridiculous. It's not a sentiment a non-collector can empathize with, though, and that's good, cause it's not exactly the most economical hobby in the world.

My haul for the 3DS looks a little like this now.

There are still a couple of titles missing, namely, Story of Seasons, Persona Q, Shin Megami Tensei IV, some game cases I can't find, and the whole Zelda collection. After obtaining Monster Hunter 4U, Rune Factory 4 and Tales of the Abyss in one day though, I have successfully managed to quash the urge to hunt down more games in the immediate future. Hopefully at least until I finish what I have.

On the other hand, I shamefully admit to buying quite a number of PS3 games despite my physical console gathering dust in some corner of the attic.

And with that ends this status update, till the next haul.

MIRAcle indeed

What's that? What's that!? It's MIRAcle!

So after Zynga USA decided to fire a dozen employees, shut down their China branch and murder countless Ayakashi beauties, a bunch of disgruntled developers (supposedly) banded together to form a new company and a new AGG! Of course, there's no way to know if they will actually succeed in obtaining the rights and get the game out but a teeny bit of hope is in order.

My only fear is that it will be entirely in Chinese, and I will be hard-pressed to dig up the last dredges of what used to be a second language. However, I guess this is that one trigger that will motivate me to finally start learning it properly: what a blessing in disguise.

Groudon lands at last!

A waaaaay overdue update from me about Pokemon Shuffle since Rayquaza and Daily Pokemon events have already ended. But mainly, they've added a Groudon event, to which I'm super happy about since I now have all 3 Kyogre, Groudon and Rayquaza :D

Squares, devil squares and cubes

One of, or perhaps the game with the cutest graphics ever that I've played must have been FEZ. I came across this game when I was looking to complete a challenge on Steam (add games to your wishlist) and without much thought, I added this game as the graphics were so adorable! A few months later, a good friend of mine bought this game as a birthday present for me along with Strata (another random puzzle game with really nice graphics and pretty good music). Well I felt bad since it was added to my wishlist on an impulse, but nevertheless I decided I would play it anyway since it was given to me in good will.

To be honest, although I am not as hooked/addicted as I am to some other games, I did enjoy what I've played of it and would recommend it. I have yet to complete the game though, so I may not be the best at talking about it. Still, I will share about my journey in FEZ. This post will just be a short introduction to the beginning of the game though.

P&D day x+3

sorry this took quite long.
I had a bit of trauma after screwing up uniform gatcha beautifully.
Five rolls and no 5 stars :( I was going to screenshot and show it but I didn't log in for three days to p&D..... Well today, my post isn't really going to be about P&D but more about probability.
I was always surprised by the fact that chance of you rolling at least one 6 after throwing dice 6 times are only about 2/3. Well, at least I knew it wasn't certainty but I was thinking it would be close to one.
This is strange nature of probability. I am writing this because I found someone online complaining about other gatcha game.
He apparently had 10% chance (game kindly released statistics!) of getting 5 stars and he rolled 10 times. He didn't get a single five stars and complaining about how the game is cheating him.

He made two simple errors.

First of all, chance of him getting not a single five stars 34.8%. WELL that is quite significant enough. There is nothing really ridiculous about it! The chance of that happening is more than 1/3! It is not something that is so surprising even if it does happen.

Second of all, even if chance is low, it can happen. Even chance as 0.00001% doesn't mean, it won't happen, especially when the sample size gets bigger! To quote some chances, you have about 1 in 2 million chance of getting strike my lightening, 1 in 8 million chance of winning lottery! Such a small chance but they do happen!

Unlike people tend to think, 10% is not that big chance. 5% is even smaller chance. Everyone all should realise that when we are doing gatcha in any type of mobile games, the odds are not in our favour! Far from it. As the players, we should always remember doing gatcha in mobile games are almost similar to playing games in casino but odds are just worst and your incentives are not as great as the casino!

In general, I do not know what is the probability of getting five stars and above in P&D, my guess is that it is quiet significant! (for non god-fest limited monsters it might be as high as 20~30%) (some say it is 2% for 5 star god fest limited and 0.2% for 6 star god fest limited but I seriously doubt that chance.... it is too low to be true, I believe) But again I can't make estimate with such a small amount of data!

Though I have to agree that gatcha is what makes mobile game mobile!
So let's roll roll roll! But let's not curse the game but curse the chance (or your luck XD)!

ps. But seriously f**k you Gungho!
